About Kenworth DAF Adelaide
Kenworth DAF Adelaide is a subsidiary of the CMV Group, a privately owned SA based company that was established in 1934 with a staff of five. It has developed into a fourth generation family owned organisation, employing over 1200 employees, with substantial operations in South Australia and Victoria. The CMV group has 80 year experience in a variety of markets, including Australia’s automotive, commercial and agricultural industries.
In 1968 the CMV Group purchased Peter’s Diesel at Gepps Cross, which was the South Australian dealer for Kenworth trucks. At that time Kenworth was a new brand in Australia, having only been here for three years. Later the dealership relocated to Richmond, in 1975 it moved to Regency Park and in 2007 relocated to the current large modern dealership at Cavan.
Today Kenworth DAF Adelaide is one of the longest serving Kenworth dealers in Australia, with a reputation for quality service and strong customer relations.
Paccar Inc is the parent company of Kenworth, DAF and Peterbilt trucks.
In 1905 William Pigot Snr founded the Seattle Car Manufacturing Co. to produce railway and logging equipment. Later the company merged to become the Pacific Car and Foundry Company.
During World War 2 the company manufactured Sherman tanks, dry docks and tug boats for the war effort.
In 1945 the truck manufacturing business was entered into with the acquisition of Kenworth Motor Truck Company. Later in 1958 Peterbilt Motors were purchased.
In 1972 Pacific Car and Foundry was renamed Paccar Inc.
The acquisition of DAF Trucks NV in 1996 and Leyland Trucks in 1998, solidified Paccar’s position as one the major truck manufacturers of the world.
Today Paccar is a publicly listed US based company. It is a global leader in the design, manufacture and customer support of high quality trucks under the Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF nameplates. It also provides financial services, parts distribution services and industrial winch manufacture.
In 1923 HW Kent and EW Worthington used an amalgam of their surnames, to create the name for the first production Kenworth. From that day forward, Kenworth has continued to forge a reputation for craftsmanship, durability and engineering excellence.
In 1970 a new purpose built factory was built in Bayswater, an outer suburb of Melbourne. Over the years this factory has expanded considerably. In 2013 the 50,000th Kenworth rolled off the Australian production line. Australian built Kenworths have forged a reputation for reliability, durability, high driver acceptance and strong resale value. Kenworth has been the market leading heavy duty truck brand in Australia since 2002 for very good reasons. Kenworth trucks are truly "Australian Made, World’s Best".
In 1928 DAF's founder, Hub van Doorne, started an engineering business, 'Hub van Doorne, Machinefabriek en Reparatie-inrichting'. The Great Depression saw a shift towards trailer manufacturing and the change in name to 'Van Doornes Aahangwagen Fabriek' (Van Doornes Trailer Factory) which was abbreviated to 'DAF'.
In 1949 DAF manufactured their first truck in Holland. The brand soon went from strength to strength in Europe. In 1985 DAF undertook a project with British Leyland, and two years later Leyland was taken over by DAF.
Then in 1996 PACCAR acquired DAF Trucks N.V. and its production facilities in the Netherlands, Belgium and the UK.
Today DAF is a global organisation with over 80 years of experience in vehicle engineering and manufacturing. A major player in the European transport industry, DAF has owned a significant slice of the market share across Europe for a number of years and delivers a broad product range for the European market.
DAF Trucks have been imported by PACCAR Australia since 1998, with the 2,000th truck delivered in 2010.
